Long time not so sharp

It's been a long, long time since I did a blog post. It could be a long, long time before I do another one. Looks like I haven't been so sharp for a long time, time to sharpen up again. We’ll see how we go. Take care and thanks for reading ... that is if anyone has read this post. If you have read it PLEASE comment and let me know. Thank you.

Also a huge thank you to all of the many, many people who sent me Birthday wishes for my Birthday on Tuesday 25 April 2017 ... very much appreciated.

Seeing as it is now 2:28am on Thursday 4 May 2017 I wish you all goodnight and may the fourth be with you.

European leaders recently demanded that Icelandic banks give them back their cash. They forgot that the Icelandic alphabet has no letter C!

Good Convention - Less than sharp organisation

Over the weekend of 6 - 9 July 2007 ASM Assembly No1 - Melbourne held a Magic Convention to celebrate their centenary. The convention was good with a tremendous line up of 'stars': Shoot Agowa; Lennert Green; Eugene Burger; Jeff McBride; Shawn Farquhar; Gaeton Bloom. Well done to the organisers and the hard work and time you have all put in.

However, in my opinion, this was all undone by less than sharp organisation and communication. let me give some examples:

Friday night - a real mess of the registration. this is the first contact conventioneers have of the convention and how well it is organised. Surely a few hours spent packing the bags prior to bringing them to the convention would have greatly enhanced first impressions.

Saturday Morning - the registration confusion continues.

Saturday Afternoon - No stage competition voting tickets in the convention bag, resulting in volunteers running around handing out tickets. Not a good look.

Having to queue up for the "It's Magic International Show" tickets - these should have in the bag! Also, at least in my case, after asking about seating being told we can sit anywhere. This should have been made clear!!

Saturday Evening - at the "it's Magic International show" being removed from our seats after being told we were in somebody else's seats. Eventually we were found alternative seats, not the ones shown on the tickets, somebody else was in those.

Sunday - the convention was finally told were to find the dealers room!!

Sunday Evening - The banquet menu was nothing like what was published and, at least at our table, no roving magician. As I don't eat Quail; Salmon or Lamb it was not worth the $100.00 ticket price to me. The dessert was good

Close up Competition - It was at least good to see the the organisers listened to the contestants re judging and made it a panel of 5 rather independent judges than audience vote, seeing that the comp was run over 3 sessions and therefore couldn't guarantee the number of persons in the audience each session. However, after telling competitors about table and camera placement, it was noted that competitors were changing these conditions - it should have been the same conditions for all contestants.

Competition Presentations - Many interstate conventioneers had to leave to catch transport home and would have missed the presentation if the organisers hadn't eventually agreed to bring the presentations forward.

Even though the Close Up Competition resulted in equal winners - surely there should have been a trophy and certificates on hand to show. And to cap it all off not even signing at least one of the prize cheques - I ask you!

Farewell Party - finally due to the program running late - this happens at most conventions and not very much could be done here, although an hour over run in an afternoon is a bit much - as a result many interstate conventioneers missed out on the farewell party.

Overall a good convention had the gloss taken off it due what came across as organisational and communication ineptitude.
